2.) p5b deluxe 1004 bios
3.) 2 Gigs of memory --> Corsair CM2x1024-6400C4
3.) XCLIO GREATPOWER X14S4P3 550W ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail
4.) Antec P180 case.
These are my main components.

I'm concerned about my vcore, it is a little low. I have a stock setup going on here. Any suggestions to overclock or make things a little more stable? If you need more information just write me back. Thank You

I too have a system much like this and have had zero luck with attempting to overclock at all. What would be very helpful for me (newbie) would be a step by step guide to all the best BIOS settings.

In my case its:

E6600 C2D
2 x 512MB Kingston HyperX DDR2 8500 (1066) memory
1004 Bios

I can't seem to get a single core past 1.7 of the system will not even post.

Well now i have another problem. I restarted my computer and the computer hung at the bios splash screen. It took 2-3 mins to get out of that. I think i might have a serious problem now. It didn't do this before, i have stock settings. I did a memtest with 12 passes and zero errors. I did prime95 and the computer took it fine.
I forgot to mention that i also have a PCI-E x16 card, evga 7600GT and a sound blaster pci card. Not sure what is going on.

latintrpt, try the following settings.
RichardPHarvey, try the following but with multi @ 9x, FSB @ 333, & DRAM Frequency @ 667. Yes, i know you have damn good RAM, but when overclocking, try finding the CPU max first; then worry about improving RAM speed later.

I use bios 0711, but this should work fine for all.

Modify Ratio Support = Enable (allows you to set the multiplier; 7x = E6300, 8x = E6400, 9x = E6600, etc.)
C1E Support = Disable
Max CPUID Value Limit = Enable
Vanderpool Technology = Enable
CPU TM function = Disable
Execute Disable Bit = Enable
PECI = Disable

AI Tuning = Manual
CPU Frequency = 401
DRAM Frequency = 802
PCI-e Frequency = 100
PCI = 33.33
Spread Spectrum = Disabled
Memory Voltage = set this to rated vdimm
CPU VCore Voltage = 1.45V (in Windows, this results in ~ 1.42V idle; 1.4V load...You can lower/increase this later)
FSB Termination Voltage = 1.3V
NB Vcore = 1.45V
SB VCore = 1.6V
ICH Chipset Voltage 1.2V or auto

Memory Remap Feature = Disabled
Configure DRAM Timings by SPD = Disabled
DRAM CAS# Latency (TCL/CAS) = 5 (these four main timings can likely be tightened later)
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay (TRCD) = 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge (TRP) = 5
DRAM RAS# Activate to Precharge (TRAS) = 15
DRAM Write Recovery Time = 6 (this & the succeeding subtimings can be lowered later)
DRAM TRFC = 42
DRAM TRRD = 10
Rank Write to Read Delay = 12
Read to Precharge Delay = 10
Write to Precharge Delay = 12
Static Read Control = Disable

I think my board is toast. It freezes constantly at the bios splash screen. I have bios update 1004 but it says i can't flash it back. Is this true? Thanks for the settings n7

Using slightly more conservative numbers I was able to push it out some, my CPU-Z screen now say's Core Speed 2700.0 and it was like 1700. But I'm still confused what this all means, is this telling me that each core is running at 2.7 for a total of 5.4 when this chip is rated at 2.4....? This C2D stuff I find confusing.

Just to make it clear,
I have not the OC settings. I just restarted my computer last night with stock settings and the computer hung at the bios splash screen. It takes a little while but it eventually goes though. Bios update is 1004. The problem is that i can't flash back to older bios. Please help.

here is another good reference for you:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115217

your chip is running 2.7 ghz per core so your speed is 2.7, not 5.4.

Here are some random thoughts, maybe they will help.

I have read other posts of people saying that the P5B's onboard High Definition audio drivers can sometimes cause a very slow boot. I see you have a Soundblaster, so did you disable the onboard audio in the BIOS? If you have not disabled it, give it a try.

Also, when you updated your BIOS, some settings may have been changed to their defaults. Maybe you can go into the BIOS and check that all the critical settings (such as Vdimm) are the same as they were before the update?

There is a key that you can press at the splash screen (I believe it is the tab key) to remove the splash screen and see the messages from the BIOS POST process. Maybe this will give you a clue as to where, exactly, the boot process is getting delayed?

Other than this I don't know enough to be able to help more :(

Edit: by the way, unless your system is unstable, low Vcore is not necessarily a problem. I have my E6600 at 1.136V Vcore with no problems (at stock speed). Based on this I would suspect your problem could be elsewhere.

hey N7,

what if i just wanted to overclock my cpu and not the RAM? What settings should I use? You gave me some settings so that i could overclock both my cpu and RAM earlier in this post.
Thanks

2 weeks after i applied these settings my computer started freezing while in windows xp.
1.) intel core 2 duo e6300, stock cooler
2.) p5b deluxe 1004 bios
3.) 2 Gigs of memory --> Corsair CM2x1024-6400C4
3.) XCLIO GREATPOWER X14S4P3 550W ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail
4.) Antec P180 case.
I proceeded to apply the default settings and the freezing went away. Is there any other settings i can use to overclock just a little bit? Is it safe to overclock the RAM? Thanks

I am running an e6600/P5B-Del. setup as well (with Zalman 9700), the max I can get my system to run at is 333FSBx 9 (3.0ghz), running at stock voltage.

I have messed with lowering the multiplier and and increasing the FSB, but with zero success. I have increased the Vcore voltage but that seems to make me get the BSOD in Vista 64 all day long, at any overclock.

So my question is, raising the NB and SB voltage necessary on these boards?? I have read very little about upping board voltages, and was just wondering how safe it is to do so.

Keep your RAM timings loose, to make sure that the RAM isn't causing the meltdown.

Just because someone else's setup will boot up at 400FSB doesn't necessarily mean yours will too.

JHurst try the settings latin posted above. The most important things are making sure the voltages are all set manually, and have the maximum VDimm (ram voltage) that your ram warranty supports.

Latin: What are your temperatures like? It might be your cooler holding you back. Your RAM is good, I'm assuming its at 2.1 or 2.2V?
