I'd like to be able to remove the N/B and S/B heatsinks, to replace the TIM with AS5. After unclipping both heatsinks, I was unable to budge them. I tried twisting them back and forth (using quite a bit of force) as well as trying to pry them off the board. When I tried to pull them off the board, I was using about 20 - 30 lbs of pressure and neither heartsink budged! It feels as if they were attached with a thermal glue or something?

I'd really like to get these off but I don't want to damage the board? Are the heatsinks on the P5B-D typically this hard to remove? Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanks!

Try using a hairdryer to soften the thermal compound.

They must be using different compound on the P5B-D, than the P5WDH-D. The thermal compound on my P5WDH was so dry and brittle, the heatsinks came off with very little force.
