I have the asus p5ad2 premium and I need the fastest p4 I can get for gaming what will it be.The new dual layer or the p4 3.4 extream edition , or the p4 3.8. I will be using the asus ati ax800xt platinum vidio card ;If I can find one. {Money} not rich not poor but don't want to spend the next few years upgrading. My theory is to do it now do it once do it right. serch and reserch

i suspect the new 3.8ghz will give the top-o-the line EE a very close run for its money-and you get SSE3

Seems to be the only p4 reviewers have actually been impressed by in relation to the AMD FXs and 64s

The new 1066 EE is still based off of the gallatin core, not Prescott so I would tend to thin they won't oc very well. With the Asus board you have access to the cpu free lock, so the 3.6 or 3.8 looks good. I know you want to get an E0 stepping though.

I would save the money and get a 3.2 or 3.4 ghz CPU and OC the hell out of it. Then use the money you saved on a better video card. The reason?

A 3.2 w/ a 6800GT would be head and shoulders better than a 3.8 w/ a vanilla 6800 for gaming. Would be cheaper too. :)

Depends on his budget and willingness to o'c.

If he's got the cash, but not the time/money to fiddle around with the o'c, its a no-brainer to pick up the chip that is guaranteed/warrantied to run at that speed :)

I'd go with the o'c option, but thats cos i'm a penniless law student with way too much time on my hands (tho i do have an exam 2morrow :( ), and i enjoy the whole o'c experience-but if i had the money i'd grab the 3.8ghz and restrain myself to experimenting dangerously on my amd xp2000+ :D

As charloscarlies sez, for gaming the gfx kard is the most important component, so the combination he suggested if u r on a budget would be the best bet...

(i am amazed and gratified that no cl0wns have hijacked the thread and started screaming hysterically about the gaming virtues of AMDs, naming no names... :D)
