p5ad2 raptor not recognised

In the p5ad2 bios I set the Sil3114R to sata not raid.

In xp I can't get the raptor drive to be seen by computermanagement or using partition magic 8.

However when I run SAM it shows up.

Do I have to create a raid array of 1 hd to be able to use it?

Was it because I didnt add the silicon Image raid driver at the F6 stage of XP install?

You need to add the Sil 3114R drivers at the F6 stage even if you are just using one drive and you can't create an array with one, but it will still work.

You can add the Sil3114R drivers in windows as long as you are not booting from that controller. You probably need to go into the controller's setup screen at bootup and specify that it is not part of a raid and just a single drive.

Let me get this straight I have the same motherboard as you do, are you trying to install one hard drive? If your not trying to create a raid array you shouldnt have to install the raid drivers.

yes its just the one hard drive on the silicon image.

Im booting from ICH6R with 4 hd's connected to it.

The ICH6R works just great with 2 raptors in raid 1 and 2 maxtors in a matrix raid setup.

The Silicon Image ATA controller setup in the control panel shows the raptor connected as channel 0, target zero. So its been picked up. It just doesnt show up in computer management.

Im upgrading to sp2, I hope it makes a difference.

Any ideas appreciated
