Hi everyone :)
Where did I go wrong, or Should I just give up Overclocking? Here's my setup:

I used the OC GENIE to overclock my new box while running on distributed computing in Rosetta@home with 8 threads at full load, and running cool: 45*C, 48*C, 46*C, 45*C. It boots and run but after a while it crush and reboot. Not stable. So I pushed the OC GENIE button again to disable OC. Is there something wrong with any of my components? Any components to replace to make overclocking stable? Runs perfect without overclocking both in Vista Ult and Win 7 RC.
Here are my components:
1) intelCore i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model
2) MSI P55-GD65 Intel 1156 i5 i7 P55 Motherboard, with the new Intel® P55 Express Chipset, supporting the Intel® Core i7
3) Kingston 4GB DDR3 (2 X 2GB) 1600MHz CL8 240-PIN DIMM, DUAL HYPERX 4) Zalman CNPS10X Quiet CPU Cooler
5) COOLMAX 700W ATX CU-700B 120 SILENT FAN, SEMI MODULAR CABLES 6) OEM RADEON 4650 ATI RADEON 4650 DDR2 1GB VA4652NHG1. I wish I could run this box in distributed computing at overclock mode. Oh maybe, just wishfull thinking. Not an overclocker.
Many many THANKS for your comments / suggestions.

You need to use BIOS for overclocking, not OC genie. I am sure some will reply with the best setting, but in general in bios, you want to bump up the vcore, and vtt and then change the blck to say 200.

As a gd65/860 owner myself. Stay away from the genie. It gives nice numbers on paper, but it won't hold up to any kind of stress testing.

Shoot me a message if you want some OCing tips. Otherwise stock numbers aren't all that bad.

When i first started i upped the vcore to 1.34 and run it at 4ghz ran prime 95 was stable
No problems what so ever, just the temp was a little higher than i wanted.

Hi all:)
I just give up trying to OC my new box. I am now content with the current default setting. I know that at no load, my cpu's temp are low (27*C, 25*C, 30*C, 25*C, 27*C,25*c) and when I
resume distributed Computing with Rosetta@home at full load, my cpu's temp averages jump to 44, 47, 45, 45 *C. I am happy w/o attemping to oc. Thanks for all your comments/ suggestions.

Is that with HT on or off? I am running with HT on. Haven't tried with HT off since I don't see the point of paying for extra processing ability and not having it available at will :)

Same boat HT on at 4ghz The temps get kinda crazy about 90c on prime95 about 10 hours
You are right i would have just went with a I5 750

I have it at 3.3ghz stock volts HT On

Really I do not see a real difference even gaming or working with HD Video @ 4ghz

I was just happy with stock 2.8ghz but what's the fun in that :}

Isn't there a sticky that warns about how "admitting to software OCing when BIOS is available" is a slappable offence on ATF. ;-)

What cooler are you running? I ran an OCCT run over 8 hours and never saw temps hit anything near that on my H50. I mostly hang out in the low/mid 70s now that I have my ultra kaze 3k pushing outside air through.

I don't see any differences either between stock and 4GHz, but I just enjoy playing around with my new toys and seeing what things I can do to them. It gives me something to mess around with that won't destroy my house or make my wife mad.

I would like to get it stable at 3.6GHz with all the trimmings, but so far it has proven elusive since the 4.45Ghz single thread clock does nothing but generate errors under Linx.

Yeah i like to push anything i can get my hands on, i even modded intel cpu's in dell computers with no option of oc.

I have a Thermalright MUX-120 i had Two Antec 120mm push pull on the cpu but didn't do any better than 1 single 120mm push. I looked at the screen shot i took it hit 87c max on prime95. And really did not have the volts up to high. I was thinking about flat lapping the cpu cooler or check it on a plate and see how off it is.
