Id like to start a topic to compile what we know about the P55 chipset family. What will it support, what will it provide, what will it do. This isn't so much about timelines as about features and platforms. The image is from XTreview but I changed around the order to make more sense (to me) and did the coloring.

  • I have changed ilkhan's title and sticky'ed this thread. Posts regarding P55 or other upcoming chipset families could be "Hypothetical" or "Proven-by-in-the-know". Let's share what we know and what's known to others. Standard CoC of AnandTech applies.

Umm.. I guess not many are interested in the upcoming tech..? Q57 is something new to me from ilkhan's link.

I wonder what the future holds for USB 3.0 and SATA III. Intel has been usually the 'pusher' of new standards, and it is interesting that it isn't the case this time around. According to the chart, the southbridge looks like (modified) ICH10/R, with no siginificant changes.

I'll be back to add to this thread now that I know of its existence, but I wouldn't make the conclusion you do Lopri based on lack of contributions thus far.

It could be simple proof of the fact that quite literally rather few details are known/published in the public domain at this time. (this is my take on it)

Agreed! :) My grandma use to say "patience is a blessing to those that seek its fortune"

As far as memory goes does anyone know if the P55 will take any dual channel ddr3? I know the core x58 tri memory you weren't suppose to use memory with voltages higher than 1.65 ish. is it the same for the P55 mobo?

same controller, 99% it'll have the same limit. Of course, is there any >1.65v memory for sale right now? Everything was >1.65v when X58 was released, now its almost universally <1.65v. Or maybe its just because Im looking at triple kits.

On newegg about 60% of the dual channel DDR3 is > 1.65V.

Lynnfield based CPUs supports dual channel DDR3-1333 natively (where as bloomfields support DDR3-1066 only).

edit - cutting down from tri channel to dual channel for the IMC on lynnfield probably removed a few constraints when it comes to memory voltage/clocks.

good info cookie monster. Probably they also wanted to reclaim some bandwidth numbers, as dual 1066 isn't that impressive.
