Definitely something to be concerned about if you're expecting a performance boost from SLI/CF.

If you want SLI/CF, absolutely.

Though TBH, if you want SLI/CF, you should be looking at X58, not P55...

2x of the current gen video cards have a problem filling an 8x bus, right? So wouldn't you be OK if you were just sure to select one of those boards that had 8x on the 2nd PCI?

Bit-tech has a comparison between 55 and 58, basically a single card is equal on either of the systems. With crossfire or SLI you lose some on minimum frame rates, very important to me, maximums are pretty close. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa...s-gaming-performance/1 Would like to see how a card like my 4870X2 does, hopefully it would act like a single card in a 55 system.

A 4870X2 will act the same way it does on an X58, P45 or 790FX chipset. On any of these chipsets one PCI-E slot is fully 2.0 16X capable so the 4870X2 has all the bandwidth it was designed to use. It's when you have two physical PCI-E slots with two cards that things get difficult.

That is what I thought it should be Sylvanas but I have seen some FUD about something not being up to PCI-E 2.0 standards in 55's implementation. That was the reason for my curiosity.
