I've had an ASUS P4T533-C since they came out. It shipped with BIOS 1003 and even now with BIOS 1008 I seem unable to either disable the serial or parallel ports OR enable PnP OS in the BIOS. When I do so, niether Windows or the Windows setup CD will boot, it just sits there at a black screen. That doesn't hurt anything, but I'd like to have the peace of mind of knowing that I can use the features in the BIOS should I need to do so. Anyone else experience this/know what might be the problem?

Also, the latest BIOS, 1008, seems to take forever to POST! I'm talking anywhere from 30sec to 5 minutes. It just sits there at the logo screen or if I have that disabled, the post-IDE verification screen. I don't get it! I've tried different RAM modules and slot configs, disconnecting my IDE devices, removing my PCI cards, different AGP cards, no change. It doesn't make any sense to me! Again, it's not hurting anything besides taking forever to POST, but has anyone else experience this/know what might be the problem?

One more thing: my computer had been running flawlessly up through BIOS revision 1006. Then once I flashed to BIOS 1007 I would have problems... BSODs to be exact...whenever I'd be defragmenting, virus scanning or trying to launch a DirectX game. Weird, huh? When WinXP reboots it claims a device driver caused it but it didnt' know which one. So I troubleshooted all weekend by reinstalling Windows a dozen times and installing things in different orders, and it turned out to be my SB Audigy drivers... but they had never been causing ANY problems before!!! BIOS 1006 let my SB Audigy work fine... now 1007 didn't and I don't know if BIOS 1008 does or not because I got pissed at the computer and now I'm using my little Shuttle XPC in the meantime. How can this be??? Could it be because the SB Audigy was sharing an IRQ with a few of the USB controllers? That seems the most likely thing to me. Any other ideas? I mean, yes, I can stay at the 1006 BIOS but you know, I want to stay up to date.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

There is really no reason to Update the BIOS unless you are experiencing
difficulties with the version you currently are using (which you are).

If version 1006 (which is not listed on ASUS's Website) works flawlessly, I would stick with that.
