Ok, this is a very strange problem. All summer I've been using a HomePNA network at my place, so that I could use my computer in my room. Last night I brought the computer down stairs to get packed up to bring to school. Before I packed it up though I wanted to check something with my computer, not this. So I put the computer back together and and plug in the network. The computer booted up like normal, but the network wouldn't connect (I know the wire and all works cause my laptop can get online from that point). Now, I thought ok this must be because I had that crazy homePNA network on my computer. So I ran all the network config tools to get things back to the right settings, but still it wouldn't connect. I did this many times. Next I updated the network driver, PCI driver, and others. Still wouldn't connect. After this I reinstalled the operating system, yeah you can see I was getting pissed at this point. Still nothing, wouldn't connect. Or, now I decided that it must be a network chip problem, so I went out to wal-mart and pickup a cheap 20$ network card. That didn't work either. At this point I don't know what to do...
Quick defininition on what connect means. I'm only going to really talk about the onboard network, don't want to use the PCI one. The onboard would notice when the wire was plug in, and one of the 2 lights would turn on. Then when I go to renew IP it wouldn't work. If I let the computer sit for a couple min it will adujst itself to IP 169. ..... and gateway 255. ... Can't remember the rest of these number, but I guess they are just defaults for something. So basically, I can't get the Road Runner (Cable) ip address that I'm looking for. Remember, I can plug my laptop in with no problems.
I have XP Pro, P4S533 motherboard with Bios 1009, and it is the correct bios, I didn't install 1009c or anything like that. It wouldn't explain why the PCI card doesn't work anyways.
Can anyone give me some help?
