Ive been "listening" for a while and searched through some old posts however my questions remains...

I have an Asus P4S533, P4 1.8a, DDR2700, and a GeForce Ti4200 in the post due to arrive tommorow ;-)

Ive read that changing the fsb after an OS install ( XP Pro ) can have detramental effects ( Both Boot errors and performance ). So to save multiple reinstalls any advice as where to go first ? ( Ive picked the basics, fsb being the most obvious and v core for stability ).

Ive also read but not totally got my head around max frequency ( Ghz ) doesnt always mean best perf - due to the memory bus etc so whats the best compromise for this system ?

And one final query - The standard hsf im told its ok but to replace the thermal pad so have ordered some silver compond.. Any tips for usage ( Not used it b4 ) ?

Sorry if these are newbie questions ive tried to pick up as much from previous posts ( as an existing PII300 ( 450 ) i know alot can be done with the right knowledge )

Thanks in advance

I've done a BUNCH of changes in the last couple weeks, and have encountered errors only a few times. Each time I've increased the voltage a notch or two and that fixed it. Other than that, no problems.

From what I've seen, overall, higher cpu freq's will give you the best performance vs. adjusting something else. However, it's a balance game also, and you'll have to play with your settings to get the most out of it. My config may not work on yours, cause I may have crappy ram, or your cpu overclocks better, y'know? You'll have to find the best comprimise, but trust me-->that's the funnest part! Once you get there it's finger twidling time, getting there is where the excitement is....:)

Check out the Artic Silver website, they have a good, thorough instructions page.

HTH and good luck!!!;)

for hsf applications, please check out "Warning: Intel HSF..."or something similar...just search for warning...
as for the best o/cing result...increase your fsb to the max with stability...then play around with memory ratio go get more juice out of your system...if upping your memory bus gives you instabilities, try lowering your system fsb...make sure you benchmark your results and save a list of your set up and results...only you can find the absolute best set up for you system...make sure you have some good ram too for memory overclocking...keep on reading other post...there are more than enough information on this forum for you to learn all that you need for overclocking...but if you are lazy...you can always ask...
