I'm going to be throwing together a PC for a friend. I built myself a 1.6A with an Asus p4s333 and it O/Cs to 133fsb great, but not much higher.

Question is, should I get him the same thing or should I go with the p4s533. Trying to keep price down and the 33 is only $80 while the 533 is $110. I"m not saying he will O/C it but if he does he will be able to get at least 133fsb out of either one so the 333 seems like the best choice, right? :)

we don't need all the bells and whistles, just a good running machine..

My Asus P4s333 runs 152 FSB with no problems; so it is not likely due to the motherboard alone that you cannot o'clock higher. So, if you want to stay with the SiS chipset which works just fine for me, then go with the p4s533; it is supposed to do better.

But, I can already tell you what Thugsrook will say and that is to go with the Asus p4b533, different chipset, but he says better memory use. Perhaps, this thread will bring the Master overclocker himself into the mix. You can explore different flavors of that chipset also. Others swear by Epox and Gigabyte, if that is not a sin.

Good luck, it is once again a snap to build a fine, speedy and highly reliable computer, thanks to multiple excellent motherboard companies and chipsets.

You can get 152 out of yours? Maybe I didn't try hard enough. :) I'll check the p4b533 as well then since we all know Thugs if the man.. :)Thanks

Get him a P4B533 or a P4B533-E..

I have both w/ 2 - 1.6A's , both do 160fsb, 1:1 = 2.56Ghz no sweat....

I have 1 stick of Samsung original PC2700 in both systems. & they both have
a GF4-4400 ..

If I purchased something today , I'd get the Cosair XMS3000c2 memory.

Thugsrook is getting 169fsb at the 3:4 ratio... Thats DDR451 !!!!!

Good Luck

Bump the voltage up just a hair on your 1.6a, make sure your memory is set to 1:1 and that you have good memory (Corsiar, Crucial, Samsung, etc). Cooling is not a problem; I am using the stock heatsink and fan. It just take the right mix of hardware to get it moving.
Good luck.

I'm trying to get the guy a good set up for about $750. the p4b533 is about $131 while the p4s333 is $80. Maybe I can find it for less else where. Might as well get the best huh...

There are other brands besides ASUS. An awesome board is the EPOX 4BDA. Its 845D, so no USB 2.0, but every bit as good as a P4B533. Pricewatch lists them for ~ $75. If you want to go 845G, Mwave.com has the EPOX 4G4A for $93.
