Actually, the pro's on these forums use whichever is the best performer for their specific needs except for a few.

Intel 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB Northwood = Fvcking crazy overclocker. Most used to hit 3.2-3.6GHz fairly easily. I don't know about now..

It's like the old Celerons.. :)

They don't make 130NM cores anymore. You'll be hardpressed to fina ANY hyperthreaded northwoods that are below 3 ghz anymore. I would just get the 3.0 prescott....

That is right that is why my cpu this time last year was an 2.4c oc'd to 3.5ghz on an Abit IC7 i875mobo...I just wasn't impressed with the direction INtel took with its rather sh^tty prescott line so I switched to the superior chip at the moment the K8 design....

The 2.4b northwoods were also great O/Cers, I still have one that did 3.0 for about 2 wks before I changed it out at stock voltage. Before that it ran at 2.7 for 2 yrs or so. I ran this processor on a Asus P4PE with not a hitch all that time. By the way, the P4PE is still going strong. I will keep it running until it won't play my games anymore. Saving my cash for the next big build some time down the road.

I was running my p4-3.0 at 3.8 for almost 6 months before I decided to lower the clock to 3.6!!

Of course I had great memory and along with upping the clock speed the memory copperated just fine!!

Totally air cooled!! Using only 2 - 80mm fans blowing air in over my hard drives!!

Everything else is doing the exhaust thingee except for thr CPU and vid card!!

I have no dead air spaces!!

Quiet pleased with the results!!

But it took alot of time and experimenting with the colling set up to find what worked best for my particular system!!
