I've been using the Asus P4P800 w/ 2 Mushkin Level 1 PC3500 512mb modules for about a year now. Have a P4 2.4c o/c'd to 3.0 now, and I get these problems whether I o/c or not. When I'm playing a game that uses a lot of system resources like World of Warcraft, I get the blue screen every now and then. I ran memtest and sure enough, I got errors in one of the tests. So I unplugged 1 module and it tested fine. Then I switched slots, swapped modules to try a single in every slot configuration and it tested fine.
So when I have 2 ram modules in A1 & A2 or B1 & B2, I get the errors. When I have just one module in, regardless of which slot it's in, no errors. Now I notice if I don't use DDR(using A1&B1 or A2&B2), it works fine also, just no DDR. I've been hearing that's it's only a 10% performance increase anyways.
Should I upgrade to something else out there now or just stick w/ what I've got? I got this combo cause it was cheap and I could o/c it. Is there a mobo/cpu combo I could get that's a great deal and gives great performance for tthe $$ or should I wait. The problem doesn't bother me now that I've identified it and got around it, but if something else is out there that blows this combo away for less than $500, I'm game. Thx.
