P4P800 WINDOWS XP PROBLEM

Not sure if this is a P4P800D problem, but never thad this problem before with XP. Just assembled the P4P800D, p4 2.4c, i gig crucial 3200, Gforce4 4200, Sonata case. Everything lites up fine, but obviously have to reinstall Windows XP which is on a 40gig IBM 100 drive I pulled from my old computer. I had backed up my files to another 60gig drive, but keeping everything to a bear minimum on the new computer as it starts up. Did not change anything in the setup. When I am prompted to reinsall or repair XP from the CD, repair does nothing as it goes to the C prompt, and install says I need to partition the 40gig drive -- as it is listed as 'unpartitioned'. Hitting 'C' to create a partition does not work, neither does 'D' to delete the partition. So I am stuck. This disk still works fine on the old computer, booting to XP without a problem. Not sure why it says 'unpartitioned' to start with on the P4P800D. Seems like a weird problem but wondering if anyone has run across this issue. Thx. Pat

If I was you I would try to set your controllers to compatibility mode.

go in your bios, then main> ide configuration > then set onboard ide operate mode to compatibility mode, see if that helps.
