This is not a P4P800 Deluxe - only - related question, it can also be seen as a generic question about external USB/Firewire connection, so it was posted here and not the specific P4P800 sticky topic. But since this is my mobo and case, I'll post their info in here :).

Looking to my Chieftec Dragon case, I have a front panel with 2 USB and 1 Firewire 1394 connector. Since the motherboard's manual tells that I shouldn't change the wires or I'll damage the motherboard, I prefer to take some time and ask here for an opinion.

I'll post the settings in plain text, I hope it doesn't mess the layout too much ... but I'll post the PDF links so it should be easier to check :). But if you copy-paste to a notepad, you'll see it correctly :)

Front Panel Case with 2 USB and 1 Firewire 1394:

[1] USB Cable (splits to 4 grouping cable):

[1.1] I think this is for 1st USB (3 pins)
(1)+5V
(1)-D
(1)+D

[1.2] Don't have absolute sure if it's ground for [1.1], because it has 2 grounds, and [1.3] would end with only one ground (2 pins)
(1)GROUND
(1)GROUND

[1.3] I think this is for 2nd USB (3 pins)
(2)+5V
(2)-D
(2)+D

[1.4] Don't sure what this is for ... (1 pin)
(2)GROUND

[2] Firewire 1394 Cable (doesn't split, it ends with a big connector):

[2.1] I think this is Firewire 1394 (10 pins, one not used - the pin number 10)

(pins 2-4-6-8-10)
+----+----+----+----+----+
|TPA+| VG |TPB+| VP |xxxx|
+----+----+----+----+----+
|TPA-| NC |TPB-| NC | NC |
+----+----+----+----+----+
(pins 1-3-5-7-9)

xxxx -> Closed.
NC -> In those pins, I have no wire.

ASUS P4P800 Deluxe:

[3] USB headers (10-1 pin USB_56, USB_78):

Page 2-30 point 9 of the manual.

+---------> USB+5V
| +-------> USB_P6-
| | +-----> USB_P6+
| | | +---> GND
| | | | +-> NC
| | | | |
+-+-+-+-+-+
+-+-+-+-+-+ USB_56
+-+-+-+-+-+
1| | | | |
| | | | +-> (no pin here)
| | | +---> GND
| | +-----> USB_P5+
| +-------> USB_P5-
+---------> USB+5V

[4] IEEE 1394 connectors (10-1 pin IEEE1394_2(Orange)):

Page 2-32 point 13 of the manual.

+---------> TPA0-
| +-------> GND
| | +-----> TPB0-
| | | +---> +12V
| | | | +-> GND
| | | | |
+-+-+-+-+-+
+-+-+-+-+-+ IE1394_2
+-+-+-+-+-+
1| | | | |
| | | | +-> (no pin here)
| | | +---> +12V
| | +-----> TPB0+
| +-------> GND
+---------> TPA0+

Now this is a little confusing to read in text, but I can post the link to the Front Panel of the Case.

Chieftec Dragon - How to connect USB & 1394 (Version 3, Intel standard)
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Manual E1323

From what I can see, and I would like your confirmation please :):

(A) Firewire connects directly without any trouble, the front panel connector seemd to fit the pins correctly (speaking of pin information).

(B) With USB, it's a bit confusing ... I can see 2 diferent configurations:

(B.1) Config 1

+---+---+---+---+---+
|1.1|1.1|1.1|1.2|1.4|
+---+---+---+---+---+ USB_56
|1.3|1.3|1.3|1.2|xxx|
+---+---+---+---+---+

xxxx -> Closed.

(B.2) Config 2

+---+---+---+---+---+
|1.1|1.1|1.1|1.2|1.2|
+---+---+---+---+---+ USB_56
|1.3|1.3|1.3|1.4|xxx|
+---+---+---+---+---+

xxxx -> Closed.

Are they both correct? Are they both wrong? How should I connect the d@mn thing?

Thank you for the attention.
