I'd like for everyone who has a P4P800 Deluxe and who is using the onboard Via Promise Raid controller to tell me if this is comparable to what they're getting... I am getting the feeling that my raid-0 drive just isn't performing up to snuff, but let my numbers explain:
==============
What i'm using...
P4P800 Deluxe with onboard Via Promise Raid v1.12 (bios 1008)
two Maxtor 15gb, 7200rpm, 2mb cache drives in RAID-0 with 64k stripe size
PCMark 2002 scores:
HDD score: 934
--[breakdown]--
HD Cached file write: 28.9 MB/s
HD Uncached file write: 43.3 MB/s
HD Cached file read: 32.6 MB/s
HD Uncached file read: 33.7 MB/s
HD File copy: 8.4 MB/s
Sisoft Sandra 2003.1.9.26 scores:
--[bypass windows cache]--*
File System Benchmark: Drive Index 26212 kB/s
--[enable windows cache]--*
File System Benchmark: Drive Index 12970 kB/s
*enable/disable the cache in the File System Benchmark options (button near bottom left)
==============
my external 80gb maxtor 7200rpm usb 2.0 (NON-RAID) hard drive gets better scores than these in some areas! Is the via controller just crap? (will they fix it in later bios versions).. are my HD's just too old? I thought 7200 rpm was 7200 rpm..!
There is a new Via Promise version in the new 1009 bios (v1.20) but it requires me to restripe my drives so I haven't been able to try it yet. Anyone know if it's any better?
If those of you who have a similar raid-0 setup could report on their own personal benchmark results in either or both of these programs so I can get an idea of how I'm doing, that would be much appreciated.
If you can include the same information as I did that would be great. Thank you
