I have a intel 3.2E and I can enable lock free but when I do my cpu speed goes to 2.8ghz
It's suppose to inprove the speed not decrease it, Am I in error ? What did I miss? or do you have to overclock after switching the bios setting? otherwise doesn't help a bit. Thanks

you can now change the muliplier without oc.ing the fsb which is a better/easier way to oc

Actually, ASUS's lock free is not unlocking multiplier completely AFAIK. Here's what I know about lock free (or whatever it calls).. You can select two multiplier, 14x or original multiplier. 14x multiplier is useful when you have high performance RAM that can do 1:1 with high FSB. Even if you don't have high performace RAM, you can get more FSB since multiplier is lower. For example, like 230*16 = 3.68GHz vs. 262*14 = 3.668GHz. 262*14 has slightly lower real clock, but it is no doubt that the second one will perform better since its FSB is way higher. So, how it can be used is opposite to what dashiki said.

Yes, it is useful for some, but totally useless for some as well.

Yes that sounds good but will I have to overclock to get back the performance I lost by useing lock free? I have to overclock 20% to get the speed back to where I was. My temps are just a degree or two higher. or is that the Idea ? 20% gets me to 3.333 and my fsb is 240
