Just received my second dual kit(2x256) of OCZ PC3200 ram. It's the platinum edition, rated at 2-3-2-5. I've been running this same ram since i got my system up, but the first kit I received is rated at 2-2-3-5. I was dissappointed to find that the new kit has different timings, but figured I would sacrifice one clock for twice the ram. I installed the new ram and set my timings to 2-3-3-5, which both sets should handle fine, and changed nothing else, since the other kit was running so well. The comp would not even boot into windows! I pulled the new sticks out and it booted back up...Any ideas on why this is happening? Do I need to have 4 identical sticks?
Update: Just got off the phone with OCZ tech support. They said they just changed the format of their timing markings, so that shouldn't make a difference. They said the instability is likely due to my attempt to run 4 sticks at tight timings, which puts too much strain on the chipset, but they will gladly exchange my 4x256 modules for 2x512! I'll be driving down to Sunnyvale on monday to swap em...Great support from OCZ!
