P4c SL6WU stepping

just bought this from fry's. was wondering if this is a good stepping to overclock. is this a 30cap cpu? should i look for one of those 30cap p4s? thanks

If you got a 2.4c the batch you would be looking for to get M0 stepping with 30 caps would be SL6Z3 the easiest way to check is look on the back side of the chip if the center is filled with 5x5 rows you have 30 caps

oh and I forgot to answer your overclocking question. It all comes down to luck in the end (deffinately doesnt hurt to have the "better" batches though) , I have a 2.8c SL6Z5 with 30 caps and im getting it to 3.7 stable (ive seen 12 capped 2.8s hit 3.5 / 3.6), I got lucky though most 2.8s tend to hit their limit around 3.6 depending on the cooling you have.

i didn't want to open the box so i can return it to fry's. so the sl6z3 is the stepping to get?

correct, if your in dallas I had the guy look in the cage for me at the Plano store, and they found one pretty fast for me

thanks for the reply. i'll go back to fry's and ask them to find me one if they don't i'll return it. by the way does the SL6Z3 stepping come in only 2.4c flavor or does it come in the 3.0 flavor too

3.0s are tricky I think its luck of the draw on those, Ive heard a number of explanations, but generally M0 stepping on the 3.0s are more common I believe, but Ive never heard of a specific batch that always has 30 caps, it could be any of them.
