I seem to be getting improper mhz with the bus core ratio. I'm getting something like 2.38Ghz when my FSB is 169mhz, memory 127mhz. Anyone got any ideas?

More info on your rig is needed, motherboard, chipset, cpu, memory, etc. As far as I can tell, you're just running a P4C.

I believe you need to up your FSB to 200, An incorrect bus speed will lead to incorrect clock speeds.

Sorry my bad, I must have hit my head....

I'm running a P4B533-E, /w P4C 2.8Ghz... I figured part of it out what was going on the reduced multiplier from the P4 2.4B 533 compared to the 2.8C I didn't realize it was less. The 14x on the P4C 2.8 vs. 18x on the P4 2.4B's.... I can't seem to get the P4C to even run at its rated speed. And I have pretty good control over the memory timings (4:3 ratio).

The reason why is that your motherboard doesn't support 200Mhz FSB P4s (which is what the C varient uses). That's why the most you can do is 169Mhz because you are overclocking the motherboard, even though the processor is running sub-par. The only way to fix this is to buy a new motherboard that supports the higher FSB. Unfortunately since I'm an AMD FanBoi I can't help you with that. :)

Good luck!

Uh oh... I think we found your problem.

You're running a 533mhz board (133 quad pumped) with a 800mhz fsb processor (200 quad pumped). Since P4's are multiplier locked, the only way to change clock speeds is through changing the FSB. Since your motherboard was designed to run at 133mhz, and your processor at 200, we now found the reason why you have a lower than speced clock speed. Your motherboard may not be able to run at 200mhz, and may be limited at 169mhz. Your motherboard chipset is overclocked and may be as high as it can go, but your CPU still doesn't get the full FSB loving it needs to achieve its true speed.

I think you're going to have to get a new board to get the most out of your CPU. Maybe you can find someone who is willing to do a trade on the FS/T forums. I'm sure there may be plenty of people willing to ditch their 2.8B for a 2.8C.
