Was putting together my new system over the weekend:

MB: Asus P4B533V (BIOS 1002)
CPU: P4 1.6A Costa Rica
PS: Antec 380 W True
VID: Gainward Ti 4400 (default drivers, haven't updated yet)
SOUND: SB Audigy
HDs: WD 7200 RPM, 40 GB and 10 GB
OS: Win XP

Installed Win XP with absolutely no problems and ran Windows Update. Was reviewing my BIOS settings and noticed that I never enabled the PlugNPlay OS before the install. Win XP installed flawlessly, so what difference would this option in the BIOS have made? Should I enable it or leave it as is? I'd appreciate some opinions.

Thanks in advance,
Der Perfesser

PS: Say what you want about M$, but I've never had an easier installation than I had last week. XP installed and configured several components (printer and modem) that I never even told it about!

I've installed Office 2000, Microstation, and several games (MOH:AA, Spider-Man: The Movie, RTCW, Alice, CivIII, NHL2002, Max Payne, JKII) and have run each at high res (1024x768 or higher) with no hiccups at all. Haven't even started OCing yet. Will run MBM and Prime95 this evening and then get started. I haven't been the biggest M$ fan, and resisted XP until now (Product Activation still tees me off. Even when I reinstalled Office 2000, had to call M$ to activate, and they wanted a reason for reactivation! NOYDB!!!), but I'm happy as a clam right now given the stability and ease with which the system runs.

My only unexpected expense is that, since I upgraded to a larger PS, my APC UPS has started to chirp in Overload Mode. Looks like I'll have to plunk down for a larger UPS!

Not sure what you mean here. I have a "basic cheapo" APC UPS 300 VA system. It works flawlessly with my 350 watt Enermax PS and WinXP. In fact, I would think that there is really no interaction between the UPS and your PS, other than the UPS providing power to it. The communication occurs via the serial or USB cable. Maybe a setting you need to check out or a software update you should get.

The size of your PSU is meaningless, since modern switching PSUs only draw the current they need. The new Antec units have a unique output design that might cause them to suck more power with an equivalent load, but that's just a guess.
