I am going to be reinstalling XP (done with my test run and want a clean install) on my P4b533-E and am debating about using the onboard raid controller or the regular ide controller for my drive, a few people have said that using the onboard raid (even if you are using a single drive and not actualy running a raid array) is a bit faster then the regular ide ports. Also I have seen people suggest flashing the bios of the promise raid controller to turn it into a full fledged raid controller or just a ultra 133 controller. I am cursious as to what people think about this. Thanks.

What did you eventually try? I'm putting together a new system with the ASUS P4533-E motherboard and wanted to install two HDD in the RAID 0 configuration...I thought about doing what you are considering but thought I had read somewhere where it wouldn't work (don't quote me). Right now the system is not recognizing the drives and I'm begining to wonder whether you have to boot from a HDD connected to the primary IDE vs the RAID ATA/133 connectors?

Thanks.

I ultimately ended up using the onboard IDE as I wasnt actualy using raid, I know there is some way to get it to boot off of the raid drives (even if you dont have an array set up), but I couldnt get it to (not that I spent that much time though).
