I just bought the Asus P4B266 yesterday, along with a boxed 1.7 cpu. Installed the cpu, hs/fan, Radeon video card, 256m Crucial pc2100, 400w P4 power supply. Layed the m/b on a non-conductive mat, connected p/s after verifying all jumpers in default position and left it in jumperfree mode. Turned power on and all I get is the green led and cpu fan spinning. No post or beep codes. I even removed the ram and don't get any beeps. I removed the battery, shorted the CMOS R197 and still no post. Tried another video card, same thing. Tried it with floppy and hdd connected and disconnected, same results. I've tried the P4 12v plug plus the EZ plug, same results. I then tried another power supply, same results. I've reseated the cpu several times, verifyed jumpers several times. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. The p/s, video card, and ram were all working in the other computer. Thanks, JF

You've done everthing I would have done.
I'd be willing to bet it's a bad board...RMA time?

BTW...Is the PA version the same as the regular P4B266?
I want to get the P4B266 from NewEgg, but it has been out of stock.
They do have the P4B266 PA instock, but I was wondering if the are exactly the same.

Thanks

I haven't checked to see what the difference is on the two. I just got back from the store where I purchased the parts for the to see if it would post. It wouldn't post for them either. They were going to replace the board, but when I went to remove the cpu by lifting the bar, the back part of the socket was broken. Now the cpu won't come out and they say they can't take the board back because it has physical damage. No manager there today to authorize it. Any idea how to remove a cpu with the socket broken??

Thanks, JF

Yikes! Tough pickle. :(

The PA version stands for Plus Audio.

Why can't the business you bought it from bite the bullet and replace your equipment? Weren't you THERE when you and your retailer realized the physical damage?

Good luck!

racer, are you sure its a mobo issue? i have the same problem but its on a P4S533, an asus board, it wont post beep or nothing. but when i set one jumper for the onboard alarm system to a speaker, it spoke, "no cpu installed" "no cpu installed" infinitely. so obviously my board works but the cpu is bad. the cpu brandnew from newegg. just my experience.

Dino,
When I first fired it up, it was saying something, but very inaudible. It could have been "no cpu installed". That's when I started rechecking everything, including the cpu. After reconnecting/reseating everything, no more voice and no beep. Now the socket is cracked and I can't get the cpu out,@#@#%@#$@#.

James,
Hopefully the manager will be in the store next week and we can work something out. I have purchased quite a few things there, so maybe, just maybe it'll work out. Keeping fingers (and more) crossed.

Thanks, JF

What jumper did you change, I have the same problem with a PS333. No video, it powers up, no beeps, no voice.
