Building a new rig for Q6600 overclocked, but want to know which out of P45 vs x48 vs 790i would give me the best performance? Also, compatibility with future Intel chips would be nice. I'm leaning toward x48 at the moment. Any thought appreciated. :)

I am sure there are some differences between X48 and the P45. However I think it is a waste to go with X48 seeming how good and stable the P45 chipset is. And it overclocks just as good or better than the other chipsets.

I do not think I would puchase a Nvidia chipset though. Stick with Intel.

My vote goes for the P45.

Check out the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo. This motherboard supports crossfire, has 8 sata ports, and is a MONSTER overclocker. Threads on Xtremesystems forums have this bad boy at 655fsb on duals and 525+ on quads. The best part is it is only $136 before rebate! Best value board I have seen in a while.

Wow, I guess that seals the deal. It's $117 + shipping after rebate, wow nice price. 525 on quads, jesus... :)

both the P45 & X48 are great overclockers. Mainbaords based on X48 will have slightly better performing BIOS'es and offer more memory/FSB dividers, more BIOS performance tweaks and have tighter chipset-to-memory latencies. The x48 is the uber performance class chipset while the P45 is an all around great performing mid-range chipset.

just buy a P5Q-PRO (p45) from Asus and call it a day :D. X48 isnt worth the price premium for a q6600 OC and the 790i is a bit more finicky, and it requires DDR3. evga 780i FTW is also a good board, but its still like $100 more than the P5Q-PRO, which will give you all the OC power you need
