What is the P43 chipset, and what does it bring to the table? I'm guessing that it's similar to the P45 in the same way that the P31 was to the P35.

According to this P43 chipset gigabyte mobo...

It's a PCIE 2.0 x16, not a regular PCIE x16. Maybe that's what you meant to say?...

No he meant you can't use dual x8. eg. 2 cards, as theres only one pci-e slot.

Anyway its just budget stripped down version pf p45.

So, basically if we have no desire for xfire, we can just save money and go for the P43 over the p45 as that is its only advantage?

I'm most curious about the memory limitations, P31 supported 4GB of RAM max only, while P35 supports 8GB. If P45 supports 16GB, does that mean that P43 only supports 8GB?

Ahh, so I would need a P45 to utilize the 1333mhz FSB (with applicable ram) of the e8400 then.

No, 1333fsb for the CPU is really 333fsb quad pumped so at stock DDR2 667 (333x2 because it's dual data rate) is fine if using the 1:1 (lowest) CPU:DRAM ratio.
If you are going to overclock then you need RAM capable of faster than that though.

The other thing to bear in mind is that is what Intel claim it officially supports - but iirc Intel specs for P35 only claim DDR2 800 support yet people can run P35 at over DDR2 1200.
