P4 wire trick?

I'm looking to maybe do the wire trick to increase the voltage of the cpu. Is there anywhere where this trick is illustrated?

Wire trick for what motherboard? Most motherboards you just up the voltage in the BIOS.

No, I've seen where people are connecting certain pins of the cpu with a wire to increase the maximum vcore of the chip.

VID mod is a more accurate discription of the procedure. Basicly by shorting two pins on a P4 Northwood you can fool the motherboard into thinking that the chips default voltage is 1.65v. This allows most motherboards to give the chip up to 1.85v.

One tip,
I've found it much eaiser to form a small U with the wire and drop in in the corrasponding pin holes in the socket, then install the CPU.
Keeping the tiny wire loop over the CPU pins while installing the processor can be quite a challange and you have to deal with it everytime you remove the CPU. The wire jumper stays in the socket just fine though.

The "U" thing won't work if you are wiring more than 2 pins. I HIGHLY reccomend wiring all four (4-3-2-1). If you are going to go to the trouble of doing this, you may as well release all voltages. You should have 1.5 to 2.2 available when you are done. If you only do wire the 4 and 3 pins, this will only give you a max of 1.85 volts (1.7 default) and if your mobo is like mine, the actual MBM voltage will be 0.05 to 0.075 less than the BIOS setting.

Do it once and do it right. I ended up doing the 3-4 and then went back and wired them all.
