Hey,

I've recently put together a new system with a fresh install of Windows 2000 Professional Edition SP2, and have had instant problems since day 1. Can anyone help me?

System Specs:
- Pentium 4 1.8A
- Asus P4B266 SE
- 512 mb DDR
- Leadtek Titanium VX 64mb DDR

Software/Drivers:
- Nvidia 2183 Approved Drivers
- Intel Application Accel.
- Win2k SP2

My main goal is to run Lightwave 6.5, but it seems that now I can't get the system stable for longer than 30 minutes without getting the dreaded 'blue screen'. It seems that i get the lockup after opening, closing then opening a second program, or even just randomly it seems, eg. gamespy will cause a system error and end.

The error log's telling me the following is wrong...

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.... win32k.sys, nv4_disp.dll

or

c:\winnt\system32\services.exe status code 128

It seems everytime it locks up, it produces a different error. I've replaced the Nvidia drivers to ones which are MS approved to compensate for the nv4_disp.dll error, but it continues. I've run the repair session and recovery consoles to reinstall stuff, but the problems persist.

So what should i try next?

I'm thinking about switchin to Windows XP, but as a graphics base I'm not too sure which is better. I've checked for patches and downloads thinking its the CPU or chipset doing something weird, but I have no idea.

I'd love to hear about suggestions on what i should do.

Thanks, :)
