Good read!! But in buying a system you have 3 types of buyers:

1 Uninformed/Uneducated buyers
2 Blind Loyalty buyers
3 Educated Tweakers

The P4 will sell quite well simply because of #'s 1 and 2

No startling revelations there. Anytime you see a "super computer" with a low price tag you can be sure it's neutered or spayed somewhere. One of my DBA buddies (damn software people :)) picked picked up a 933Mhz Comqrap P3 w/ INTEGRATED VIDEO (?!?!?!?!?). Needless to say my P3-550 Katmai w/ OCed TNT2 Ultra did better in many popular benchmarks.

As usual I feel Ole Tommy is still a little queasy from Oktoberfest because his tests are not apples to apples. We all know the P4 will most more for similar performance it has been proven time and again. Like I said before, he is just stating what many have been saying since the P4 debuted. Betcha people will not say how he was the "first" to break the news.

I like the review...comparing dollars to dollars. The machine specs aren't as close as possible, but they are only a few dollars apart. And when I buy, price is a high concern for me. That's why I'm so far into the AMD camp...Intel's price/performance ratio is ridiculous compared to AMDs.

No Windogg but its definetelly funny how Sharky gave that same Dell system a great review because they sent him a totally pimped out version. The P4 is a huge marketing gimic for stupid consumers. I feel bad that people are falling for it thinking they are getting a better PC cause its 1.3Ghz.

Has anyone actually seen how well the P4 is selling? I've not seen very much on the subject, but what I have said they weren't selling very well.

I'm just saying that the so called "uninformed/uneducated buyers" are passing on this product just like the i820. No one likes to get ripped off.

Well I can see the point here, but probably 90% or more of all business computers will never run ANY kind of 3D app ever.

For those people they want system performance (like me). But they work in a 2D world. Things that matter are, how fast they can open and email, excel, or do some other task. Frame rates, and 3D quality are NOT important. in fact they are less then important, I usually try to spec systems that will have very poor 3D performance, We don't want anyone being able to enjoy any UT/Q3/or HL variant at work now do we... ;) (need an evil smile)

it's funny officeboy should say that. I was reading about how corporate people can be so dumb. but it seems that now the P4 is hitting them so hard in the wallet, they've actually come up with a sensible attitude to it. I don't think they like the idea much of having to buy a new set of applications like excel just to make sse2 overcome a feeble FPU, when they felt their old apps were working well already. the p4 seems to excel in a couple of home-user areas, who probably won't cough up that much money! how often have you heard a parent say "oh, we only want it for a bit of printing and for the kids to play games" and seen their face drop when they realise it is gaming rigs that really cost money in the pc world!

The P4 will shine once it ramps to it's full potential. Remember back when the P3's first came out? K6-3's beat the P3 in some benchmarks. Look where the P3 is now.

to everyone,
the p4 potential will only be seen if programs use SSE2. if not, the t-bird with DDR memory at 1.5 ghz will kill the p4.

If the t-bird went to a 256-bit to the cache interface, it would be spectacular.
