P4 Volt Mod w/o the wire

I just upgraded my work PC to a Gigabyte board that doesn't support voltage on the Vcore. I've been reading about the wire trick to volt mod the P4's and gave it a shot. That is one tough thing to do unless you work on watches for a living. (Those dang pins are small, much less trying to holding a wire on to them while inserting the CPU to the board).

So I had an idea, why not try some of that old Rear Window Defogger Repair stuff from my old Athlon days and paint the bridge in. I got a couple of painted toothpicks dipped in the stuff and placed a dot between the two pins. (Use a painted toothpick because the unpainted wants to absorb the solvent and drys before you can get to the pins with it)

The stuff works like a charm and fairly easy to scrape off with a toothpick if you screw-up.

Rapier, where did you get the "rear windo defogger" stuff from? What is it called specifically?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the guy from the local Advanced Auto order me some of the stuff. The name of it was "QUICK GRID Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit" made by Loctite. I also found it online Here.

Good Luck

Thanks again Rapier. I did the "Pin Trick" with my P4 by dropping a small U shaped wire into the appropriate holes. In the event I decide I want a greater overclock via more voltage I will have to "connect" more than just two pins. That is where the interest in the repair kit comes into play.

I picked up some defogger repair stuff from advanced auto last night. Before i done this my system was fairly stable 1.6a@2.4 :) I had ran prime 95 for 20+hours without a hickup. Had the standard boot issues though, but wasnt a big deal.
After the wireless wire trick i booted. went to bios..sure enuff 1.7v..cool beans. Lets see how much more i can go.

Couldnt keep the damn thing stable at 100fsb then..I think the stock cooling aint cutting the mustard on this one. I undid the mod and went back to the 2.4@1.65v. still stable although im having some issues with this POS MSI 845!

It's a lot easier then the wire trick and pretty easy to remove if you need too.
