I have a 1.3ghz P4 on a Dell Dimension 8100 and I wanted to know if i am able to upgrade this to another P4 without upgrading the motherboard. Please post any help that you may have.
no you can't.
the p4 1.3 uses the old socket 423 compared to socket 478 that the new p4's use now.
but you can get a socket adapter to change a socket 423 to 478
you might go up to a 2.0 if you can find a 423pin processor(the new ones are 478 pins)
but you have to check what the bios supports or can be flashed to.
i'm not sure, because it depends on the multipliers which are supported by your motherboard's BIOS.
if i am correct, the highest p4 with 100mhz fsb is the p4 2.6 ghz, but it is unlikely that it will support such a high multiplier
