P4 Throttling Question

I was looking at the CPU throttling question on my new p4 board (new AMD convert) and it ranges from like 87.5-22.5% , If I set it to 87.5% when the cpu throttling kicks in it goes to 87.5% of original speed correct? Second is there a specific temp that CPU throttling kicks in? I'm running a 2.4b with a stock intel cooler and it runs about 43C in bios (isn't that a little warm?), I removed the pad and used AS3. Any thoughts? New HSF? If I get another one its gotta be as quiet as this stock one (or reasonably close). I got tired of my chrome orb roar.

i always thought that if it was set to 87.5% it would reduce its original speed by 87.5%....but i might be wrong as i dont have a p4 combo to experiment wtih

cpu throttling wont occur until around 70C, so you are fine

thats a good temperature actually with the stock heatsink, but how does it run under load in windows?

only other thing i would suggest is a alpha pal8942 or swiftech mcx4000 with a relatively quiet fan if your in windows load temperature nears 50C+

Thanks guys. for now I'm good but I might be looking into another heatsink when I try to o/c it. Its only a 2.4b b0 but we'll see what it can do.

I was looking into this a while back. The clock actually doesn't slow down. What happens is the cycle duty changes, meaning the processor would only be operational at (say) 87.5% of the time, but when it's operational it is running at full speed. So, any program that detects CPU speed should still see full speed, but your real-world performance will be less.
