P4 Temperature

I was wondering what is considered a normal and safe operating temperature for a P4 2.53 GHz CPU. It is the retail packaged version in an MSI 845 motherboard with no overclocking. The temp, according to my customer, is about 65 degrees C. That is about 149 F and doesn't seem too hot to me but I may be wrong. It is using the Intel retail heat sink included in the package and I believe he checked to make sure the heat sink was clamped down hard on the CPU. Anyway, is this normal or not? Thanks for any information.

If the 2.53 is a B0 core, the max junction temp is 71C. If it is a C1 core, the max junction temp is 72C.

I would say you need to check the heatsink to make sure it is securely seated and/or consider a different heatsink.

My 2.4b idles around 31C and underload it is 34-35C, so I think those temps are high, especially if the max temp is 71C.
