- P4 temp problems - Solved

Mobo: Asus P4b533-V
Cpu: Intel P4 2,26b
CPU cooler: Swiftech MCX478B
PSU: Chieftec 330 V
Ram: Corsair XMS 3200 v2.1
Agp: Gainward Geforce4 Ti4400

Just finished putting my pc together, works great and all but my cpu temps are too hot! Idle temps are at 52 - 60 C, load 70 C.. 🙁
Thought it might be the cpu cooler not having good contact with the cpu, so I took the Swiftech off and cleaned up and put it back on with AS II. Made sure it had proper contact. It made no difference, the cpu is still HOT..

The voltage in bios looks weird also.. The +12 line is about 11,96, the 3V jumps fast between 3 and 11V (!). The Cpu is fine at 1,5V.

I'm thinking that the problem might be the PSU, but am abit unsure.. Can the +3 at 11v be a bug with the bios ? Is the mobo showing wrong temps ?

Bought this combo to oc, but have to get my temps/readings strait first. Help is greatly appreciated! 🙂

Oh, forgot to mention that I have a Chieftech Bigtower chassis. I have put 2 case fans in it, so the problem should not be lack of airflow...

I use the latest version of Asus Probe, also look in the bios. I want also to add that the heatsink doesn't feel hot. I touched it when it was supposed to be 70 C, but didn't feel hot at all... Weird..

That doesn't sound right to me, I'm hesitant to say you've got problems because I'd hate for you to get worried for nothing. But at the same time, it's better to be safe than sorry, I'd check this out. To me, if your hs doesn't feel warm, that's not right.....good luck! 🙂

My cpu temps are very sensitive to ambient temperature.
at 25 C, cpu idle is 41 C, 56 load
at 33 C, cpu idle is 50 C, 65 load

It is very hot here, and I've run in the mid 60s at load. What is your ambient temperature?

I have a 80x80 Papst silent fan blowing on the Swiftech. Ambient temps are about 23 C. I have already installed the heatsink twice and applied a thin layer of AS II both times. Temps are weird... They jump up and down from 50C - 60C idle. In Asus Pc Probe, the temps look like a series of dots (constantly diff temps), rather than a strait line. The mobo looks good at 25 C. The heatsink was abit difficult to install, allthough I think I have got it right. Gonna try with the boxed hs and see what happens.

Ah, finally figured it out. The problem was the airflow inside the case. (Doh!) I rearranged the fans, and voila 35 - 37C idle, 42C load. 🙂 Now back to some overclocking 😀 Thanks for helping out!
