p4 socket 423 vs 478

Currently, there's no difference in the die... Just the packaging. S478 is the future, and the future P4's will be S478 (including the upcoming Northwood .13um). So, if you are planning on buying a P4, S478 would be the way to go for better future compatibility

Yep, current S478 CPU's are the same .18um Williamette core but this socket will support like Wingz said, future .13um Northwood's. Northwood will have internal improvements over Williamette, possibly use a Quad Pumped 133fsb, and will have 512k L2 Cache over 256k's on Williamette. It's gonna be good.

Nope. Abit TH7II-RAID (850) is S478, Shuttle AV40R (P4X266), Acorp's and Azza's P4X266 solutions are S478 also. Asus is making the P4T-E (850) to use S478 also.
