P4 Recall!!!

According to an e-mail I received from Kyle Bennet, it?s just Best Buy.

PC World was way off to title it "US stores recall Pentium 4 machines"

In Jacksonville, a Best Buy sales representative said he was advised to remove the Pentium 4 systems from shelves due to performance issues

What I got out of the article was that the P4's were just too expensive and they didn't get that great performance. This seems silly because i'm sure they can fool some idiot into paying $2500 for a system that should be $1500 just because it's got a few extra mhz. I would think that as long as they are making money then they wouldn't have a problem. Of course that could just be an excuse for the old bios.

jorburnet, see the last few messages. They were recalled because of issues unrelated to the chip itself. It could have been any processor.

It's not a big deal it's one or two suppliers recalling their systems because of Heat and Performance issues. It isn't like Intel is recalling all P4s.

I just read in my PDA at school today, the accually processors are NOT being recalled, they updated the bios and requested that the computer companies do it to their computers by them selves, so bestbuy is sending theirs back instead of selling them.

I think HP and other comp makers like Compaq will need to be a little different with the P4 as they never put a fan on their P3 machines so I guess they are used to not providing enough cooling.

Syborg1211: That is a greatly generalized statment and just about totaly wrong.

Compaq, HP, ..... DO put fans on their CPUs, sometimes the use a baffle/off cpu fan combo, but it's still a fan
