So look at this case. I would like to purchase it but the power supply says "P4 500W PSU". Now does this mean I cannot use it with an amd or what. I just want to make sure I can before I buy, sorry about the noob-like question, dont deal with powersupplies much.
Heres the Link:
Case description on site:
Thanks you all, your help is greatly appreciated.

To answer your question, yes, it will work with an AMD processor & motherboard.

I can't see a brand name on that PSU, and given that it and the case together are $24, i'd say it's complete garbage. I would not use it. Buy a real PSU (and a real case 😉) from a legit company like Fortron, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, etc. You've been warned!

Valid points made.

Almost every case that comes with a PSU (excepting Antec cases perhaps) generally uses a garbage PSU.

Garbage PSU = dying PSU.
Dying PSU = great potential for destruction of motherboard, CPU, & pretty much everything getting power from the mobo...

That's actaully a pretty nice looing case for $24 if that's waht it actually looks like. But since they don't have an actual pic of it, I wouldn't expect it to actually look like the attached drawing.

And I must agree that any case that comes with a PSU for that pric is complete junk.

Oh, and the P4 just means that it has the extra 4-pin connector for the CPU. (The P4's were the first CPU to require an extra power connector).

Well, I;m running a bit low after my vid card and hdd, so I was hoping for something with a fair psu say 400w and a case total under about 50 or 60 dollars. What can I get with that? 🙂

Case AND a PSU for under $50-60?

Not much. You should be looking to spend at LEAST $60 on the PSU alone.

A power supply is perhaps the most important component of your entire computer, it's NOT something you want to get skimpy with the checkbook with.

Well lets see if maybe we can work something out then! Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Possibly overclocked depending on psu)
Biostar NF4ST Mobo Nvidia Nforce 4 Here is link to full description: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138248
Ati Radeon x800Gto 256Mb vram
2 Sticks of DDR 512mb Ram PC 3200
80GB Sata Hdd 7200rpm
Some usb items (keyboard/mouse etc)
Some extra fans, no LEDs, maybe a couple.

There they are, Hope I got em all! Thanks a ton for your assistance guys!

That fortron you linked to Opteron looks good, but I want to keep my options open and see if anyoen else has links. Looking good though, and thanks everyone once again!

I like your second suggestion, since that would be cheaper overall than the antec with shipping. Looks like a good psu and yall said fortron is reputable. I assume that 400w would be enough for some gpu overclocking as well since 350 covered the cpu. In fact that is probably wwhat I will go with! Thanks so much guys, Anandtech forums have helped once more! And if there are more suggestions please let me know, best to keep options open.

The Fortron's are defintiely the best <$50 PSU's available.
For PSU/case combos, stick with Antec.

Good luck with your build. 🙂
