the S478 P4 Retail is selling 156 at buy.com, if anyone wants the link here it is: http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10310354
I'm going with DDR ram in either case since i just bought some yesterday from crucial in anticipation of building my system, but since intel will be annoncing furher cuts next week and the new Intel board "supposedly" showing up in mid sept.....dunno whether the P4 will be the better choice even though i will not be maximizing the performance because I'm using DDR ram. I know that this is the ageold debate, but if performance difference is minimal (and the most intensive thing I will be using it for is gaming CounterStrike, and maybe some hard core excel modelling) should I stick with the AMD.

Are they making a 1.5GHz socket-478 P4?!?  I know the listing says 478 but in the description below it says socket-423.  It would be cool to get into a 478 system for that cheap but be careful :Q

right now there is no point in buying a p4...the performance for a 1.7 is about the same as a 1.2 tbird and the boards and ram for the tbird are also much cheaper...ill be anxious to see the performance of the new p4 though...the northwood...with how the new p3 tested, it looks promising
