What they hell!
I just my CPU.
I notice its says Confidential.
When P4 Become Confidential CPU ?
My Dell SC400 in Bios Report 1.86 with 1MB L2 cache.
CPU ID says Family F Model 3 Stepping 4
Ext 0 Ext 0 Revision DO
Intel CPU ID says
Processor
3.05
System Bus
873
Can any body tell me what the hell is going on ?
BTW I bought OEM CPU

A "confidential" CPU may be an engineering sample.

They are extremely rare, and unlocked so you can modify the multiplier.

If you got one of these, dell royally screwed up 😉

Just because the multiplier is unlocked (if that is what is going on), doesn't mean the chip will run at high speeds. Every chip is different, and every chip will run at different speeds.

well look @ it this way... at least u can just pop that on a decent motherboard and just overclock FSB even if you can't raise the ghz by much.

I thought I got Jacked up
Is there any Utulity; where I can run it
and find out MY MB running at proper speed ?

"confidentail" means they did'nt tell you to buy a $60 HSF if you plan to overlclock a little or $300 for water cooling. It's a backdoor older version of thier new idea to limit overclocks to 10%. They fiqure most users won't bear the extra expense.🙂

Just so you know....
It's completely illegal for the companies to sell those chips.
They get them for free... So whoever you got it from was just
trying to make some $$. If you call Intel, that company will be in deep shhhhhhttttttt...

I will check PM when I get to work (I do my MOST work there 😉
I spoke AC Micro...... They sold me cause they didn't had OEM or Retail version
so they send me this
He said to me :- Get a new MB and over clock it to 3.4. He said it will work just fine.......
he also said I can sell this for $240 (Wow) or they glad to take a it back and get me Retail version ( 🙂 )
I thought I would give ya all updates
Mir 🙂

techietam is absolutely right! I also got a P4 confidential from AC Micro (http://www.acmicro.com). The processor will not work in my computer, and they refused to give me a refund/exchange. Intel is currently looking into the matter, so much so that they have started emailing and phoning me. AC Micro claimed that the chips are legal to sell. Intel told me that these chips are ILLEGAL FOR RESALE!!! They are test chips. If you bought one from AC Micro, turn them into Intel.
