Hey all:

First post in this forum, so hi...

I am looking for a motherboard that will currently give me AGP/PCI locks for overclocking my P4 2.2 400fsb past 140MHz fsb. My supermicro board rocks, as does my processor. I am at 22x140=3080~MHz. Runs at stock voltage, too...

Well, my choices are:

Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 PRO-G
Gigabyte GA-8IG1000 PRO-G - appealing, b/c I don't have the right vid card yet.
MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS - heard bad things about swelling or leaking caps, true??
MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR
Asus P4P800
Asus P4S800
Abit IS7

I will desire to upgrade to a fsb800 ht processor later, so that is a consideration, as I will want to overclock it too. The first 5 choices are newegg refurbs. Are they ok?

I would love to hear your experiences, and if you have a recommendation for a board that is really good but not on my list, please tell me.

Thank you.

David

P.S. Using 2x256 KHX 3200 BH5s, SB Audigy2ZS, and Adaptec 19160.

There is no H at the End of Adaptec.

The Abit Fati1ty has gotten good reviews for it's stability and speed.

If or do you need a PCI-X slot for that SCSI controller? Then this may not be your board, despite the fact that PCI-X is reverse compatable with Conventional PCI-32bit/33mhz. You will definitly want to run it in a 66mhz/64bit slot even though it has a 32 bit connector it will still funtion and have double the bandwith of a 33mhz slot for a noticeable improvement.

Did you even read my original post? I have a SOCKET 478 chip that I need to keep using... You sent me links to an Intel Board that does not overclock and is SOCKET 775, a DFI board that is SOCKET 479, and another SOCKET 775 board.

I do not mean to be too rude, but at the same point, please pay attention to what I was asking. I gave a list of possible choices, even...

I have the asus p4p800-e deluxe (socket 478). Rock solid and stable, overclocking is pretty good (3.0 to 3.5 ghz with stock heatsink!).

manual is a bit skimpy when it comes to speaking about hard drives.

but it's a nice board overall. I'm quiet impressed with its stability.

I've had a few issues though. I'm not sure if it's the osftware or the hardware - but when I run the CD containing "InterDVD video" (comes with the board) - my computer randomly restarts. Not that big of a deal.

The higher end vcersion of this board is the asus p4c800-e deluxe - although I'm not 100% sure it's socket 478... somewhat confident that it is.

If you're a crazy overclocker: Abit IC7 Max3 seems pretty good. I think they made this board when Oskar Wu joined the company - again don't quote me on this, this was about a year ago when I researched intel motherboards so I don't remember 100%.

Edit: and just in case you're wondering - the zalman 7700 alcu fits on this board.
