P4 overvolting

When people say they have their overclocked CPU at 1.70v, does that mean in the bios they set their voltage to 1.70? Or does that mean some software monitor reports it at 1.70? I have an Asus board and when my cpu is at default, 1.50v, Asus PC Probe reports about 1.60v at idle. From what I've been reading here, this is pretty normal. So does this mean my cpu is at 1.5 or 1.6? And if I want to run my at 1.70 to see how high I can go without frying my proc, do i then set my voltage in bios to 1.60 or 1.70? I've been trying to figure this out by reading others threads but I'm still not sure. Can somebody please clarify? TIA 🙂

If it defaults to 1.5v and measures at 1.6v, then your board overvolts a bit. If you want to run at 1.7v, logically you would set BIOS to 1.6v since the board should make up the extra bit of juice. You can also try in-between settings, if your board supports them. When people say what voltage they OC at, I assume that their BIOS setting and health monitor are the same, unless told otherwise.
