I am planning to upgrade to a P4, 800FSB processor. I will be getting the ABIT AI7. I currently have two sticks of Buffalo PC3200 512mb sticks. Should I get the 2.6C or the 2.8C? Also, will I be able to overclock the memory much? Or should I get PC3500 or PC3700?

Either or is fine and is really a price thing for you...PC3200 can work fine on both systems since you have the 5:4 and 3:2 ratio to work with.....

I say run with the pc3200 right now and see what the chip can do first then re-assess whether or not you need to get better ram....

For me 292fsb is pretty much almost unattainable even if I ran the vdimm mod and got 400+ dollars woth of ram sticks....and for what....so I can run 190mhz faster ddr but at crappier cas 3 timings...not thanks...the actual performance increase beyond te suck-arse snadra scores would be neglible....

Should I try to buy some ram capable of 5:4 ratio at 292fsb??? Well that one will require again more money out to maybe gain less then 3% in performance...not worth it plus the abit IC7 would require the complicated vdimm mod and then I may still run into the issue of getting te 5:4 ratio to work after 280fsb as some have seen....

So you see...Lot of limitations, so you are better off seeing what the cpu can do....If you got the 2.8c at 250fsb for 3.5ghz which is above average a 5:4 ratio could run easily and even a 1:1 would not offer much tangible performance difference in many apps since it would be PC4000 ram and likely no way of cas 2....

So in other words, no point to try to push your CPU and you memory to the limits. Just try to see what I can get out of my CPU.....?
