my P4S333's secondary IDE port went kapoot...

I think the Asus iPanel fuct it up :(

well, off to the computer show tomorrow, to pick up something else, until I get an RMA approval..

good excuse to go with the I845D though :)

I'm thinking either the Abit BD7, the Gigabyte board.. or the Asus P4B266-C, if I can find this version.. if not, the P4B266

I ordered an GA-8IRXP along with a P4 1.8A yesterday. It'll be here Monday, I'll let you know how it works.

I received a GA-8IRXP to evaluate and have only been running it for 18 hours so far but I really like it so far. This is the 5th P4 mobo I've had in my own computer and it may well end up being my fave.

Newegg, $156. Plus I ordered a Maxtor D740X HDD with the money I saved buying the 1.8A instead of the 2.0A ($240 vs. $385), AND took my wife out to dinner with the rest.

You just ordered it? Why didn't you hold off another 48 hours? Intel is cutting the prices! woops

Good point, but most e-retailers would have had their prices already adjusted in the event that this does occur. No harm done. :)

I beg to differ. This might be the case with the Athlon XP's, but as of right now the Northwood CPU's are still priced "high". I wouldn't expect to see the 2.2GHz over $500 tomorrow, or maybe Tuesday. Same goes for the 2.0A. Should be $275 to $325 tomorrow.

LOL

Retailers do not "assume" and go ahead and adjust their prices according to upcoming price cuts..

IF at the most.. its usually AFTER the pricecut, you actually see the prices being reflected

Some dealers do adjust accoring, in "real time"

Which ones have you tried already? Guess, I'm not the only one wanting to know that...
I'm currently also looking into assembling a P4 rig, and the GA-8IRXP looks to be the best board out there (ain't that so, Strawberrymom... :) ), but I'd like a bit more info before investing my hard earned cash.
Been an ASUS devotee until now, but recent developments at ASUS have forced me to reconsider.

mbf, most of the others were 850 chipset based. They were, in no particular order: Abit TH7 II, Asus P4T-E, Intel D850MV and a Gigabyte GA-8IRX (more of a no frills board than the GA-8IRXP).

Have you considered the MSI 845 Ultra?

Where at NewEgg did you find the GA-8IRXP for 156?

StanFL, thanks for listing the boards, you've tried. At first I had been looking at an i850 solution as well, but even though the differences between RDRAM and DDR RAM are evening costwise (at least at the moment), DDR RAM solutions seem to be a bit more flexible because RDRAM always has to be installed in pairs due to the i850's dual channel nature. Reminds me somehow of the old EDO/FPM RAM days, where you had to do the same.

To be honest, though, having 256MB DDR RAM lying around influenced my decision for a i845D DDR solution as well... :)

Additionally, I'd really like some info on longterm stability of the boards, but given that they've been around for a month at the most, this is a bit difficult. I really wonder, though, if i845D boards will be what 440BX boards have been, stabilitywise...

Over and out...

I haven't worked on many newer Intel systems, but I've read that you can buy ram continuity modules(rcm)that you place after the first dimm in each bank as to complete the ciruit, thus allowing you to use 1 stick but at slightly higher cost than the 1 stick's price. However the price of RDRAM is low enough to justify just buying 2 sticks at this time.
