Hello everyone, I am new here and would like to know what motherboard would be best for me. I would like to go to Intel. Here are the specs of my pc now.
I currently have a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP and a Athlon XP +1700.
Windows XP Pro
Leadtek GF ti4400
Xgamer sound card
512 ddr pc2100 Crucial memory.
Raid0 with 2 40gig maxtors ata133, 7200 rpm

I was thinking of getting the Pentium 4 2.4BGHz 512K 533MHz CPU Northwood P478 Processor Retail Box and Gigabyte GA-8IEXP Intel 845E Socket 478 P4 ATX motherboard Retail

Thanks in advance all

I like the way this one sounds GA-8PE667 Ultra. Does anyone have any reviews on it? I have had several ASUS boards and just dont care for them anymore. To many bad boards from them. Maybe my luck of the draw.

Anand's done reviews of a mess of PE boards including the Gigabyte. For a full featured solution, he's recommending the ASUS.

From reading a couple of posts it seems like Dual Channel DDR 333mhz is coming in the form of Granite Bay chipset from Intel and SiS655 chipset from SiS.

I've been out of the loop a long time and I am just now looking at upgrading my system with ram cpu and mobo. So I'm wondering what features are different between the SiS and the Intel solution? Is the major benefit we're looking at with this chipset DCDDR?

How much faster or how much better performance does DCDDR offer over what's currently available?

And lastly when is the SiS655 and Granite Bay going to be commercially available.

Thanks a lot.

Any recommended reading on DCDDR performance?

Yeah, the Granite Bay thread above. Performance specs won't be released until the NDA is off. I've heard 30% though.

I got this motherboard a couple days ago.. and I think it was a wise decision. It comes with LAN, Audio (6channel), tons of USB 2 ports, and RAID (you can do RAID or add more ATA devices, which I found very cool). I also bought a P4 2.4ghz with it, and Crucial ram. Upgraded from a Tbird 1.2ghz, and it was a very BIG jump. I have the LAN, the audio, the RAID and USB 2 working in Windows XP. No complaints yet, running very stable. Finally got to play a little UT2003 (demo), and I've been missing out for so long! Remember to backup your RAID info, because when you switch over you will have to recreate the array.

Good luck on your decision.
