P4 mobos

Hi all

Im looking into getting a P4 but I want the newer 0.13 micron (S478) CPUS but the mobos coming out now for the newer S478 socket are all meant for SDRAM and I wanted RDRAM

my question is whats Intel stand on RDRAM? is its gonna be phase out??

if i wanted to buy a P4 system, what memory is best? RDRAM, DDR or just plain SD?

aint it a compromise for a P4 system to use SDRAM?

I want the best, cost should not be a factor....

thanks all for your answers

For best performance on a Pentium 4 system, go with RDRAM, if cost is no object.

Yes, it is a real bottleneck for a Pentium 4 to use SDRAM...in some cases losing up to 25% in performance against RDRAM.

Intel must push RDRAM as part of its contract with RAMBUS until the end of this year.

I recommend the ASUS P4T-E.

Reported in an September 3, EE Times article

<< A secretive group made up of the world's biggest memory makers and Intel Corp. has started circulating to PC makers specifications for a double-data-rate-like DRAM that the group's members hope will succeed Rambus and DDR-2 memories. To generate support for the newly-minted DRAM technology, the Advanced DRAM Technology group will propose the spec to the Jedec standards body by year's end, said one member of the ADT team.

The group's goal is to drive the ADT DRAM technology into mainstream PCs starting in 2003 or 2004.

It seems that RDRAM will be the highest performance memory system in the next 2 years. It will then be replaced by either the ADT or DDR-2, depending on who wins the political battle.
