P4 mobo that has SIS chipset question

Well here's the problem, currently i own a ABIT VP6 which has a via chipset

and it doesnt play media(mpeg, avi) smoothly, and i was wondering if others have had that problem in other chipsets like SIS?

What are your specs all of them. The P4X266 (or P4X400) should do just fine playing mpegs, sounds, avi, etc...

You have other problems, not chipset problems.

sbl live 5.1
win2k w/ sp3, wmp9, dx9

bout all i can think of, i have the p4 cpu i just need a mobo that will play media smooth and not like my current rig.. its very annoying!

Well if you want a cheap board then look at the VIA P4X400(SOLTEK SL-85ERV2 at newegg.com for $75), OR SiS648(ECS at Newegg.com for $83).


If you want a good top line board then look at one with a SiS655 chipset.

Well that is a OK board, BUT it is the first DDR P4 chipset, only supports 400Mhz FSB, etc...

Your best bet would be to get the SOLTEK SL-85ERV2 at newegg.com for $75(Shipped). It is only $35 more than the Epox and has the updated memory controller, supports the 400 and 533Mhz FSB P4's, and has built in Ethernet.
