P4 Mobile, changing the multiplier?

I have read up on these processors, and when stuck into a desktop motherboard, they are set at 12x.

I was under the impression that this was locked, and that is why they could hit such a high FSB.

Someone however is trying to sell my a P4m 1.7 claiming that the multiplier can be changed to 13 or 14 because all mobiles are unlocked.

I wanted to verify this...

It's my understanding that all P4m's (regardless of the speed) run on 12x on desktop, the speed they reduce to when they run under speedstep mode...

Are you looking for one? I have a C1 P4m 1.7 that ran @225fsb if you're interested... 😉

Well, if they can run with a higher multiplier in a mobile PC (whatever chipset there...) there should be a trick to alow the higher multiplier on a desktop system. Maybe somebody should try to stick one of those in a SIS or VIA based P4 motherboard...

From what i know.. when you put a Mobile P4(any speed) in to a desktop its runs at 12X100
Mobile CPU have something called "speedstep" in a laptop they run at full speed but if they get too hot they start to underclock themself by changing the multplier down
but the fact that when you have it in the desktop it have a multiplier of 12 is a good think... the lower the multplier the higher the FSB(which means fast mem speed)
is also way ppl get better overclocks with a 1.6A(16X100) then a 2.5A(25X100)...

So yes the P4 Mobile are "unlocked" but you can't changing the multiplier.
