Getting AMD means you get a platform that has choices.
When you buy Intel P4, you are really stuck with RDRAM,which is much more expensive than DDR or SDRAM. Look on pricewatch.com at RDRAM prices, the are significantly higher than SDRAM or DDR.

I'm extremly happy with my P4 and if your nervous about them just wait until more optimized software starts coming out, thunderbird will become thunder chunk.
oh by the way i got my P4 1.5 ghz machine for $1400 (not expensive at all) Thank you hot deals.
ya I have a P4 as well and I got a really good deal on it, and the ram. Anyway, games are beyond incredible with my geforce 2 card and when optomized software starts coming out, i dont think the thunderbird will be thunderchunk , but I do think you will see the P4 at its best
<<If given something similar to a taste test between coke and pepsi, I don't think anybody would be able to tell the difference.>>
I dont know man. First off..if you gave me a taste test..i could tell. Pepse for me please. i really can tell the difference. And i'm fairly sure if you give me a amd pc and an intel pc with the same spec (or closest possible), in a day i think i could tell the the difference. i work with a lot of intel machines, and a lot of Amd machines of all versions. There's a diffrence. IMO
It's a Milk machine is all, Think about it.. WHY would that thing be slower then even the P3 but have all that Memory bandwith and be able to go that high in Mhz. They are selling to the Jonses right now and have ALREADY planned the release of the 2nd generation.. you know just like the Penium got MMX to go vs K6 the Celeron turned to Celeron A for K6-2 the P3 turned to Coppermine for Athlon... C'mon it's evident they have something up their sleeve, and why not get the people who fall for the marketing now then sell a "Improved" P4 that all of a sudden has so much speed :Q Then they have to go buy the new one and Intel makes even more money.. Hmmmm Sure is strange and the trend has been going on since a lot longer then the Athlon has been out eh??
My friend has a Pentium 4 1.4ghz system, and it is the fastest system I have ever had the pleasure of using. Of course, in a few weeks, I am getting a T-Bird 1.4, which should be just as fast or faster, but his P4 seemed plenty fast to me.
The P4 isn't 'bad' at all. It is just that AMD is a much more cost effective solution.
The 5% of people that probably need the advantages of one cpu vs the other probably make up their mind based on their intended use ( Yes, the P4 is better for some things). In real world gaming terms (my use)and matched up with a good video card etc, both are blindingly fast
Stability wise the P4 is probably more bulletproof. The vast majority of AMD uses suffer absolutely no problems, but currently it would appear more likely that you would run into stability problems with a Via/AMD solution than an Intel solution. This is mainly just a problem with one Via chipset though and isnt an AMD fault per se.
If you just want a damn fast machine that is the best bang for your buck, go AMD at this point in time
