Maybe you guys can help me out, I replaced the stock 2.66Ghz Intel HSF which was irritatingly loud (I installed it as is - black thermal pad) the noise turns up after a feew minutes playing games or doing video editing. The only serious looking HSF I can find around was the Globalwin CAK4-88T with socket478 clips and Y-cable. It is the Y-cable now confusing me. The HSF itself has the 3-pin MB connector, which Globalwin does not recommend connecting directly to the MB, but provides a Y-cable with 2 4-pin power connectors, the 3-pin adaptor to which I connected the HSF to, and an extra (and curious looking) 3-pin MB connector with all 3 cables going to it. I assumed it was for fan RPM monitoring which means I have to connect it to the MB fan header, but what about the 2 cables which I think will draw some power from the MB? I first tried connecting it to the MB but I was a bit concerned it may cause the MB to short circuit (2 power connectors connected to the HSF). Therefore I disconnected it (the MB header connector) so now I don;t have the RPM monitoring.
Do you think it will be safe to connect it to the MB , or should I just cut off the 2 power cables , so I can connect it to the MB header for RPM monitoring?
Any help will be appreciated... I emailed the same issue to Globalwin 3 weeks ago bu no replies yet.
