How does installing the stock Intel P4 (1.7) HSF compare with socket370?
I'm trying to decide whether to pay a little extra for a barebones like Googlegear's P4 1.7 / Intel 850 / Inwin S508 instead of doing the assembly myself. I've been installing mobos since the 386 days (AMD 386-40 was a classic) but the HSF for my p3-933 had me stumped until I broke down and read Intel's twirl-the-screwdriver instructions
It's for my parents so I'm going for simplicity / stabiliy over power / value (aka AMD). I'd go ahead and get another p-3 / CUSL-C like my current main system, but the weasels at Intel have kept p3 prices so high that I can get the P4 1.7 for about $75 more than a P3 1.0 / TUSL-C even with the RDRAM price diff.
