Ok i have the px865pe, 3500 hyper x, 2.4c and stock cooling, 350w enermax, 40gig HD, 9500 @ 9700 pro speeds, i have 4 antec blue 80mm fans, a 120mm panaflo and a 120mm blowing on my vid card

i have good airflow

temps are around 34c-40c idle 45-50c load at 3.0ghz

im usin 1.6 vcore and for some reason in BF and q3 , the pc reboots. I know 50 c cant cause this becuz p4's are stable at 70c or so.

what is causing it? think i should up the vcore?

is 1.65 vcore ok??

also Im gonna buy a betteer heatsink I like silence but what is a good heatsink that will hold a 120mm panaflo

please lmk something asap so I can buy this weekend

TIA

The pc is rebooting either because your o/c'ed system is not stable or your modded video card isn't stable. Return your cpu to default settings and if the reboots persist, you know it's your video card. If they stop, you need to test your system for stability. Tweak your OC until you can run two instances of Prime 95 for at least 8 hours with no errors. Vore can go up to 1.675 (I wouldn't go higher) . Make sure your vdimm is set between 2.6-2.7 depending upon how fast the memory is running.

I agree with the other poster - go back to default settings and play for an hour or two. If you still have reboots, it's probably a flaky device driver. If that resolves the reboots, you've exceeded the max stable overclock.

i put it at stock both vid card and cpu, no problems, i upped the vcore to 1.65 ran 3dmark03 @ 3.0 no probs and the vid was oc'd to 330/310 fixing to try 3.2

1.65 is safe isnt it?

Is that board an albatron??? What make is it??? The reason is some boards undervolt and some overvolt...Abits with 1.65v in the bios may actually only deliver 1.6v at idle whereas asus mobo 1.65v in bios may be closer to 1.68-1.7v...so between the 2 .1v difference....

IMO 1.6v is safe and 1.7v is not recommended for longevity....1.65v is relatively safe but usually 1.65v actual does not garner you much above 1.6v...so back it down 2-3fsb and see if 1.6v is stable and live with that...

if it runs good at stock speed, but reboots at oc.

-maybe a better power supply? what do u use and what brand.

-if u must OC, try lowering vcore if possible.

Unexpected reboots usually are a result of a deficient power supply. First, set all components in your machine to stock speeds, CPU, mem, vid card, etc. etc. Check how it runs. if it still reboots, unplug some of the 5 million fans you have going in there and leave the side panel off if your worried about heat. See if that improves stability or stops the random reboots.
If the problem continues, try a higher quality power supply at least 400Watts made by Enermax or Antec. They are more pricey, but worth the stability.

To overclock a p4 to above 3ghz range you need a power supply that has 20+ amps on the +12v rail....Unrotunately that usually comes in the higher quality name brands and 400+ power supplies...My old antec 350 watt started holding me back in my 1.6@2.7ghz days....My antec true power 430 started not cutting it for me in my 2.4b@3.24ghz days...I went to an enermax 430watt...I now it is the same wattage but the amps on the 12v rail were much higher...Subsequently I went from 11.48 load 12v rails to 11.88 load with the enermax....

This could be your issue...

Check that 350 enermax's 12v rail and please post it....

I ra everything at stock this morning. I have primed it for 3 1/2 hours and no error yet. I beleive the vcore fixed it but I will get a better psu soon. that 350w enermax is a good psu so it will do for now.

I primed @ 3.0 for 6 hours no errors so Im pretty sure its not the psu BUT could be.

Ill get those rails asap

The PSU is not always to blame. I had random reboots after installing my Antec True330. As it turns out, my 2nd video card, a Matrox Millenium II, did not like being in the bottom PCI slot. I had moved it when rebuilding my system. After moving it out of the bottom slot, the reboots disappeared.

eh, Enermax and Antec if you want to spend around $100. I like my 350w Sparkle. 3.26 on 3.3v, 5.00 on the 5v, and 11.73 on the 12v rails. Not bad for $35.

those PSU can be had for much lower then that....Plus when is the last time I have had a power supply issue or concern??? I will take the piece of mind knowing I have quality power supply to support my overclocking endeavors now and maybe a ew hundred mhz higher.....It can't be all luck that I have had:

1.8a@2.4ghz w/1.65v
1.8a@2.61ghz w/1.61v
1.6a@2.74ghz w/1.71v
2.4b@3.24ghz w/1.6v
2.6c@3.24ghz w/1.61v
2.4c@3.5ghz w/1.58v

In a row with no duds in between...The minute I siwtched to a p4 I went with my sparkle 350watt which was a trusty athlon PSU but it didn't cut it in my first P4 1.8a for me...I went to antec for the next 3 cpus until I bumped up to the enermax and its high amps on the 12v rail...

Now it is the last thing I have to think about....

Update: Both the Antec True Power and Enermax 430watt PSU's can be had for 75.00 dollars shipped according to pricewatch.com.....If yo want to save even more then if you ned a new case many antec case can be had for 80-100 and they come with that power supply, and I am sure the case is worth 20 bucks....
